Compliment Training

As we approached kindergarten, I talked a lot with my daughter about how to make friends and give compliments.  She has a tendency to admire her own hair, shoes, backpack, etc. as most five year olds do.  So I thought it would be a great idea to practice noticing other girls and initiate making friends.  She seemed very responsive and is very interested in having friends.

So then on the way to her kindergarten assessment, from the backseat she said, "Mom, you look like a taco!"  I was silent for a second, since I honestly had no idea how to respond.  She seemed to sense my confusion and said, "because you have black dots all over you".  I think a quiet, "wow" escaped from me and then I was silent again.

She SURE has been paying attention to our talks on compliments...
