She still cries at times, but is doing so much better with riding in the car. As long as there is another kid in the car when she gets in, she is fine now. In fact, she seems to like getting out and riding around, even if we are just doing school drop off/pick ups, and never get out of the car.
She is also doing better with our animals. We have a border collie/black lab who is the best dog I've seen at winning over kids who are scared of dogs. E.R. is definitely taking longer than any kid we've had, and I think our dog is unsure what to do at this point. She maintains a respectful distance most of the time, but E.R. actually initiated petting her today. As long as Kaia isn't panting in the heat (which shows her teeth), E.R. seems okay with her being around.
She is fascinated with our cats, but doesn't want them to touch her still. She was possibly more scared of them in the beginning than our dogs. The first time she saw one she just about leaped into Chris' arms. Her huge eyes seem to say "You people have a GIANT rat in your house!" The second day Chris was holding her and she caught a glimpse of another of our cats outside the dining room door. Her eyes got huge as if to say "there's another one!!" We have a very friendly cat who loves kids so it is only a matter of time for E.R. to warm up to her.
